Let's talk about the morning: it can be our best friend or our worst enemy.

I used to be really uncomfortable and really annoyed when I woke up. The thought of having work or home responsibilities ahead of me kept me confined to bed and my energy level was at an all-time low. I frowned at the world and couldn't imagine anything positive the new day would bring. But with age comes a dash of wisdom and insight.

If you're in a similar place to me, you've probably had a love-hate relationship with your alarm clock for as long as you can remember.

But guess what? Every time you open your eyes to a brand new day, you have a golden ticket to a fresh start. That's right - no matter what happened the day before, each new sunrise is like hitting the reset button in your life.

Isn't that worth looking forward to?

Why are mornings more important than we think?

A fresh start and energy. Every morning is like a clean slate. Any drama, stress, or embarrassingly bad dance moves you performed yesterday can be left behind and you can start over.

It's time to set goals. Morning is the perfect time to clarify what you want out of your day. Do you finally want to work out? Practice daily affirmations? Start a journal? The earlier you start, the less likely you are to be derailed by life's distractions.

It will boost your self-esteem. Overcoming the temptation to hit the snooze button (for the fifteenth time) can do wonders for your self-esteem. It's like a little victory first thing in the morning!

5 tips to turn mornings into your secret weapon...

1.Create a pre-sleep ritual:

Turn off your electronics 30 minutes before bed (good night, Netflix!).

Drink herbal tea, read a book, or write down your thoughts in a journal.

This will help your body calm down so you wake up refreshed and ready to work.

2. Set an intentional (and fun) alarm clock:

Whether it's your favorite song or a voice recording of your best friend saying, "Rise and shine, beautiful!" choose something that makes you laugh, not scare you.

Place the alarm clock on the other side of the room so you have to get up and turn it off. (Yes, you may hate yourself for a while, but your future, bright-eyed self will thank you.)

3. Improve your morning routine:

Prepare something you look forward to: maybe a delicious protein shake, a lavish coffee, or a ten-minute yoga class that makes you feel like a zen queen.

The night before, get your clothes ready. Less time spent rummaging = more time feeling fabulous.

Use your gratitude journal first thing. You can set yourself up for a happier, more positive day by writing down three things you're grateful for.

4. Reward yourself with time for yourself:

Getting up early can give you precious moments of peace. Use this bit of quiet to meditate, plan your day, or give yourself a quick mini-massage.

Think of taking back your time before the world demands it of you.

5. Involve a partner in crime (or a friend for accountability):

Team up with a friend who has similar goals. You can send each other quick selfies with the caption "I'm on my feet!" to hold each other accountable.

You'll earn bonus points if you virtually work out or share a morning journal over coffee during a Zoom call.

Real-life stories of morning victories

Fellow mission mom Tamara started setting her alarm 30 minutes earlier each day to give herself some time to herself before her toddlers woke up. She realized that these extra moments recharged her batteries - perfect for the endless "Mommy, look!" requests. Now she's unstoppable at everything from making homemade pancakes to running an online business from her kitchen.

My friend, Beata, despised bangs, so she decided to enjoy them. She danced (yes, literally danced) out of bed to her favorite 90's hit. She also left encouraging stickers on her bathroom mirror - "Girl, you're on fire!" - to remind her that every morning is a chance to shine at work and in life.

The power of positivity and purpose

When you approach each day with the belief that something good will happen, it often does. The universe somehow conspires in your favor when you choose to come with enthusiasm. Having a goal - whether it's to improve your health, tackle a work project, or simply be a kinder person - gives you a reason to jump out of bed (or at least roll out a little more gracefully).

Embrace the magic of the word "yet"

Remember that everything you desire - from a healthier lifestyle to your dream career - may not be here yet, but the journey begins with what you do today. Every morning, say to yourself, "I'm not there yet, but I'm going to take one more step today." You'll be surprised how these small, consistent steps add up to big changes.

It doesn't matter if your hair is a mess or if you drool all over your pillow when your alarm goes off (that's normal!).

What matters is that every day is a new invitation.

Accept it. You have dreams, goals, and a sparkle in your eye - why not take advantage of it?

So set your alarm, put on your game face (or your pajamas inside out if that's your style), and greet each morning like the strong, purposeful woman you are.

After all, every sunrise is a signal that we've been given another chance to live our best lives. Why not get up and take advantage of it?

Go girl - take control of your morning and the rest of the day is yours!

What does your morning look like? Do you wake up motivated and full of energy? What trick do you practice to look forward to each day?
