We hear it everywhere and from everyone - the city that never sleeps. A city that has always been the embodiment of dreams, aspirations, and endless possibilities for countless people.

My journey was not just about reaching a destination. It was a relentless pursuit of a dream that required perseverance.

This dream has been with me since childhood. I was fascinated by American movies - tall skyscrapers, shining lights, smiling people. It was all like magic.

My obsession began to grow when I first had the opportunity to travel to New York for a few days for work. Deep down, I always knew that my destiny was connected to the magnificence of this city.

Based on my past experience and work performance, I received a message from the top management in the company to represent the Czech team directly at the headquarters in New York City. This meeting brought together about 14 other employees from various US offices to contribute to a unique opportunity to launch a new project.

For the first few days, we met in the main building from morning to night. We constantly strategized, planned details, and exchanged ideas. The all-day marathon was so exhausting that we looked forward to bed at night.
But after the hard work came the rewards and a bit of fun.

The management organized a dinner together in an elegant restaurant and a sightseeing tour of the center in a tourist bus with a guide, which became an entertaining show on wheels. The music, the humor of those present, and the sightseeing of local landmarks were absolutely remarkable. I had fun from start to finish and took some great photos and videos to remember it by as well.

Although people say the world is fast-paced and crazily rushed in this city, I have a different opinion. I didn't get hit on the sidewalk or honked at by a speeding yellow cab as I crossed the street. People are very calm and friendly, and if someone accidentally bumps into you with their shoulder while walking faster, they apologize immediately and even smile.

Pedestrians often cross at a red light, and the car slows down or stops completely so they don't get hurt. No swearing in traffic or at the store in an endless line for coffee or takeout lunch.
I was fascinated by every nook, cranny, and place we passed as we walked through the city at night because every part had a story.

It was perhaps the first time in my life that I didn't mind walking outside in the light rain without an umbrella. Even though it was nearing December, the wind was pleasant and the temperature was quite merciful.
I was like Alice in Wonderland, but at the same time, I felt like I belonged in a way. The others in the group were engaged in conversation as they went along, but I could keep my eyes on each building, which was beautifully decorated with Christmas lights and other decorations. People were singing in the streets, collecting change for charity, and dressed up in costumes.

All of the amazement at the time stemmed only from the American movies I knew by heart, from the famous Kevin McAlister getting lost in New York during the Christmas holidays to the Four Christmases where 4 crazy families meet on Christmas Eve.
The whole long walk ended at one place that became symbolic for me. Our group stayed together as the streets began to fill with crowds of people leading to Rockefeller Square near the famous Radio City Hall. Yes, I was about to witness the Christmas tree lighting that Kevin stood in front of in a crazy comedy routine.

Getting close to and walking through the eager crowds of the same enthusiasts was challenging. Police security and medical reinforcements had to be provided in case the madness somehow went wrong. But I just had to see this, even if I was going to get trampled. It was a unique opportunity to go back to my childhood dreams and experience the incredible happiness that led to the touching.

Famous Christmas songs by famous performers were playing everywhere, and slowly the ritual began.
The moment the crowds went wild and gradually the tree began to wrap itself in tastefully colored lights, a poignant Christmas jingle played, I couldn't help tearing up. Goosebumps covered my body, a smile popped up on my face and my heart danced with joy. I will never forget that moment when a wave of gratitude and love washed over me. I felt that this was exactly where I wanted to be - home!

The others didn't understand why I had tears on my face, but that's the one thing no one would understand - I just smiled and after the lighting, we slowly began to walk away from the square back to the hotel.
We walked at a brisker pace on the flat sidewalk where the crowds were starting to spread out in all directions.

I said goodbye to the others and headed back to the hotel to continue absorbing the amazing experience alone in the comfortable bed of the hotel room.
It was all so strange but at the same time very exhilarating that something important dawned on me. This is where I want to live and develop, enjoying all the possibilities New York has to offer. To build and follow my big dreams. To be happy and determined to accomplish anything.

Even as my stay came to an end, I left with a feeling that changed my life forever.
Work-wise, everything came to fruition with positive results. I made new contacts and met amazing people, some of whom I am still in contact with today.

At the airport, I bought some souvenirs for my family and bought myself a mug with a beautiful picture of New York. For me, it was a reminder to work on myself, not to back down, and to strengthen my faith daily that I will one day return here permanently - to stay true to my dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.

Perseverance and determination have guided my path.
After returning to Czech soil, I began to live each day with a different attitude. I walked into the office with a smile and a solid shield against the toxic behavior of others, focused on my work, and looked forward to making significant changes in my life.
I didn't know when it would happen.

But I knew one thing: I would never give up.

Perseverance, faith, and determination will lead me to where I will be happiest...
